Atami to Yumigahama Beach 2007/11/5 01:05
Hi, we are planning a trip from Tokyo to Yumigahama Beach, with our 2 girls, aged 6 and 3. Can we get some help with the following questions :
1. Which is a good car rental agency in Atami?
2. Where can we get road maps in English? How long will the drive take?
3. What are the traffic conditions like on route 135, 136 and 16?

Thanks.

Which is a good car rental agency in Atami?

Most companies have an outlet in Atami. I personally like Toyota Rentacar.

Where can we get road maps in English?

There is an English road atlas for the whole of Japan "Road Atlas Japan" available at book stores and on the internet.

Many Japanese maps have a limited number of names in Roman letters.

And most rental cars come with a car navigation system, which makes basic orientation on the Izu Peninsula very easy.

How long will the drive take?

Probably around 90 minutes.

What are the traffic conditions like on route 135, 136 and 16?

135 has heavy traffic, especially on weekends and during holidays. During the week, it is pretty heavy, too, but there should be no major delays.

More questions 2007/11/6 03:28
Thanks for the prompt repsonse, Uji.

1. Is the Toyato / Nissan rental company located near the Atami Train Station? Is is within walking distance?

2. Is it better to do an advance booking (although I can't find it online) or can I get any special deals if I book directly on arrival at Atami?

Thanks again for your help!

Yes, both Toyota and Nissan have outlets within walking distance of Atami Station:

Toyota:

Nissan:

I strongly recommend to make an advance reservation. Toyota has no English website that I know of, but it seems that reservations are possible through Hertz.

Nissan can be booked at good rates through the following service in English:
