Family of 5 in tokyo. have an option of staying in Roppongi or shinjuku. Which area would be the most central for exploring the city of Tokyo and the most appealing to the children?

it depends of their age. but there aren't to many things for children there. Roppongi is getting more and more fancy and luxurious. Shinjuku west is mainly offices and luxury hotels. Your kids might like the (free) view from the top of the Tokyo metropolitan governemnt building. Shinjuku east has several great department stores and a vibrant, if somewhat raunchy, night life with huge crowds.
