I am moving to Iwata Shizuoka from Australia with my husband and three children. What is it like for families with young children? Schools? Weather? Apartment living? Food? I would really appreciate any information you can give me regarding moving there or any good websites. I am having trouble finding information on the internet about Iwata. Thank you.

Welcome to Japan! Iwata city is about 10 min (by local train) away from Hamamatsu city, where YAMAHA/SUZUKI has headquarters. Iwata is known for mild weather, sea coast and a professional soccer team "Jubilo Iwata." Jubilo Iwata : http://www.jubilo-iwata.co.jp/eng/index.phpI checked the website of Iwata city office but it is only in Japanese/Portugese (there're many Brazilian Japanese living in this area as plant workers) so let me post the website of Hamamatsu city. This is a different city but practically in the same area and I think you can get a feeling of Iwata. Hamamatsu city : http://www.city.hamamatsu.shizuoka.jp/

YOKOSO!!(Welcome!!)
As Jlady says, Iwata is a very relaxing place to live in. You can swim in the Pacific in summer, and it's not too cold in winter. It's like very little Gold Coast in Australia :)
Once you drive to other towns/villages in Shizuoka Pref., you can visit some historical sites(notably castles!!) and cozy mountains.
