What are school vacations like?

I was interested in what holydays they had for New Years Eve and when the school starts and ends?

Depends on the school and the year. In my experience at a high school the kids are typically off the for 2 weeks or so starting the Saturday before new years.

Why do you ask? I don't think it's relevant to the discussion. I have worked in Japanese High Schools and post with that experience.

Anyway, I spoke to a friend at a local high school just now and she said that their school is off from the 22nd to the 6th. So, while keeping in mind that every school is different and every year has holidays and weekends falling on different days of the week, I'd say the best estimate would be the last week of December through the first week of January.
