Yes and income limit varies depending on the number of dependants and what type of pension scheme (ie : Kokumin Nenkin or Kosei Nenkin)you subscribe to.

For example, income limit for Kosei Nenkin subscribers is 6080,000 yen when the number of dependants is 2.

Jidou teate is a system to support the family with child/children by Japanese government, and yes, there is indeed the limitation depending on the income.

The max income is something around JPY5,000,000 and annual income of JPY9mil is much higher than average, so your child is not qualified to receive the teate.

As for the teate offered by the ku, it really varies depending on each ku.
You should ask the ward office for details.

financial support 2007/12/5 10:20
Alexandra, that is generally true. But financial support for childcare differs depending on the local authority. For example, in certain districts medical fee for all infants are free while in others it is not.

What city (shi) and ward (ku) do you live in? Do you know if there is any assistance for foreign residents such as international exchange lounges or counseling service in foreign languages? They might even be able to guide you to a foreign parents' group where you can exchange information and make friends.

Take care.
