I want to buy a Nokia N95 overseas and use it with Softbank in Japan (I live in Japan permanently). However, I am worried that it will not work properly (see here for more info: http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/messag...) Can anyone confirm whether I can bring a foreign Nokia N95 and use it with Softbank without restrictions? Thanks

You can use: - voice calls - SMS (you may have to set SMS center number) - non-flat-rate web browsing/packet data
You cannot use: - MMS - flat-rate web browsing/packet data - "official" mobile websites (e.g. banks, airlines, music downloads, etc)

So SMS will definitely work? And non-flat-rate web browsing will work OK? Anything else I need to know before I buy an unlocked N95 from overseas?

Note that SMS is not interconnected among Japanese carriers. You can use SMS only for texting to/from SoftBank users and foreign carriers.

will the Softbank email work? Will I be able to send/receive email messages from other people in japan?

Softbank e-mail is nothing else than MMS, so e-mails won't work.
