I'm living in Tokyo for 3 months now as a volunteer and i don't have to work at christmas eve.
Can you give me some recommendations what to do on that day in Tokyo?
(except shopping and the illumination stuff)
Some special event on that day?

You could look at newspapers in English, like the Japan Times, Herald tribune in Tokyo, etc.
