Is the Tokunai Pass valid for 1 calendar day or 24 hours?

It's valid for a calendar day, but if you are taking a train which runs over midnight, your ticket is valid to your destination even if the date has changed. The JR trains in central Tokyo area stop running mostly by 1 am.
