Buddhist Temples 2008/1/1 12:00
Hi I was wondering if it is possible to live in a Buddhist temple with the monks even if you do not know the language. How much would I have to pay for this? Is it possible to come to Japan and live in a temple to become a monk on a travel visa?

Hi, there is a Zen Buddhist temple in Okayama city where a lot of foreigners are performing the ascetic training of Zen Buddhism- Rinzai sect. The temple is called Sogenji Temple(Phone:086-277-8226).
You can get there by bus from the JR Okayama station. If you contact them, they will tell you how to become a trainee monk there.
