Kyoto to Nagoya airport

Can anyone tell me how to get from Kyoto to Nagoya airport. I know that it is possible to take the shinkansen but that is quite expensive. Is the only other possibility to take local JR trains to nagoya and then change for the airport? Is there a bus that runs direct from Kyoto? Thanks!
