Best way to view Kyoto

My husband and I are visiting Japan in March, and planning 1 or 2 days in Kyoto. I was told the bus tours for foreign tourists starting from Kyoto station is good, however is that the best way to see Kyoto? Would I be better off just walking/using local transport?

It is individual preference! I personally recommend to do it on your own, but to plan well in advance. The Kyoto Tourist Information Desk distributes very good maps of the city and the bus network. And the following Kyoto Travel Guide also provides lots of information for advance planning: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2158.htmlIf you don't like planning it on your own or are afraid of traveling on your own, a bus tour might be better for you.
