Getting a Debit Card in Japan? 2008/1/13 22:41
I'd like to get a debit card here I can use for online shopping. Something easy to get (not a credit card). There is a previous thread with some good info and these two cards were posted:

eBank Money Card (Visa Debit+Cash Card)
http://www.ebank.co.jp/kojin/debit/index.html

Suruga Bank Visa Debit
http://www.surugabank.co.jp/surugabank/01/05/11/0105112000.h...

The sites are in Japanese though, what steps would I have to take to get a debit card? Has anyone gotten one here and how'd u go about doing it? I already have a Japanese bank account, but it's a cash card and can't be used to order things online. Any help? thanks..

I don't know about ebank, but with suruga bank, you just apply online, printout the PDF file that gets generated for you, put your inkan cleanly on it, and then post that (in the envelope which is also printed out) with a photocopy of your Certificate of Alien Registration.
