Hi, Can anyone advise if we going to tokyo and like to view snow and ice carvings, where are the best places that we can go. We have 5 days and will arrive in Tokyo first. Please advise. Thank you

. . . is a place close to Tokyo: Tokamachi Snow Festival. It's usually held around Feb. 16-18 or so. It also has a closing ceremony. It's a bit of a hassle to get to as you need to take the Shinkansen and transfer to a local line, but it's a lot closer to Tokyo and cheaper than Hokkaido.

Tokamachi is in Niigata prefecture and is just under 2 hours from Tokyo by train. This year's snow festival runs from 6pm Fri. 2/15 through 3pm Sun. 2/17. Here's the official web site: http://www.snowfes.jp/
