"How to be able to work as a foreigner in Japan" gets asked on here a lot.

Basically it's like this:

To work (legally) in Japan you need to have a work visa.

To get a work visa you need either a four year university bachelor's degree or ten years working experience.

Once you get the visa to work in Japan you should be able to do any job you are qualified for if you speak Japanese. If you don't speak Japanese you are limited to things like teaching English or working for and English speaking company.

Just to correct an oft-repeated misunderstanding, the requirement is for a bachelor's degree from an accredited university. There is no stipulation that you have to take four years to get it.

i.e. New Zealanders, Australians and British people are fine with their 3-year BAs (which is what I have).

I'm still very sceptical about the 1-year BA mentioned by someone a while back though.

bachelor's degree from an accredited university.

Which universities count as accredited ones? Is there some kind of list of the ones that count and the ones that don't?
