Regular DVD rental in Nagoya 2008/1/15 16:37
Hello everyone,

I have a question for anyone that happens to live in Nagoya. I moved here two months ago, and I am living in Marunouchi (between Nagoya Station and northern Sakae Central Park). I tried to find a regular DVD rental shop with a friend, but everyone she searched for on her phone (she is Japanese) turned out to be a porn shop.

It was very frustrating!

Even the shop that had posters for regular movies on the outside, was just porn movies on the inside.

Given that a DVD costs in the range of 2500-3500 Yen for a new release... I was really hoping to find a place somewhere near Sakura-dori in between Nagoya station and Sakae Central Park.

If anyone is familiar with the area and can help out - it would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Ryan

a place called Book Off sell second hand books and DVDs and may rent the latter. they are all over the place (even in some North American towns)and most likely in Osaka if not in Nagoya.

Here's a link to the Book-offs in Aichi since that's where you asked for.

But since you asked about rentals try Tsutaya. Here's a list of their stores in Aichi:

I'm not sure of an exact location in your area, but look for TSUTAYA.. there are many! in Nagoya. They also have a website so if you can get a japanese friend to look up locations that might be ideal. As well..while your on the site, sign up for the free newsletters and you will receive discount coupons on a regular basis. Hope this helps.

Geo all the way 2008/1/29 19:44
There are Geo stores more or less everywhere. They are big and yellow. There's one in Ozone which is the one I use and you can get Japanese and western films but also western dramas too like Lost or 24.

Membership is free, a dvd for a week is about 400. They also do cds and manga too.

The only thing is that you have to return the stuff to the same Geo that you got it from.
