Know anything about prepaid phones?

I'm going to Japan for 3 weeks and I have friends who live there so they can purchase the pre-paid phone for me.

Does anyone know where I can go to get one? Do all cell phone companies there offer pre-paid phones? Does anyone have any recommendations on this? Thanks for any information!

I would go with one of the major carriers au or softbank (docomo stopped selling prepaid phones)

I would recommend Softbank as they have english customer support and I've used their prepaid service with no problems but shop around and look for a handset that you like. Here's the prepaid phone sites of the major carriers:
