What are the pine trees that Japanese people keep in large pots in their yards? White Pine

I think it depends on where you live. Depending on the climate, certain pine trees don't grow well while others do. In the metropolitan area where I live, you hardly see "pine trees that Japanese people keep in large pots in their yards" because usually there just aren't yards that big enough.

In Japan, Most popular pine that is cultivated for big bonsai is Kuromatsuクロマツ(Japanese black pine), scientific name Pinus thunbergii. Gyoumatsuゴヨウマツ(Japanese white pine)is often cultivated. Its scientific name is Pinus parviflora. Akamatsuアカマツ(Japanese red pine)Pinus densiflora, is seldom cultivated.
These pine trees are native to the temperate zone.

Sorry for typing mistake. The common name in Japanese of Pinus parviflora is Goyoumatsu (not Gyoumatsu).
