What do you say? 2008/1/20 17:35
What do you say after people say 'gochiso sama deshita'?
Do you say anything?
Because i find it kind of awkward not replying after people finish their meal and saying 'gochiso sama'...(^^;)

What kind of situations are you talking about?

- If you have been entertaining guests at home, with your own cooking, and after dinner if your guests say this "gochiso sama deshita," then as the hostess you'd say "osomatsu sama deshita," meaning "it was no big deal of a meal," a humble expression.

- If you went out together to a restaurant or someone else's house, meaning you being one of the guests, then when everyone else says "gochiso sama deshita," you can say the same, it is in a way thank you to the food and to the cook and to the restaurant.

- I you are the waitress and the guests upon leaving say it, then you would say "arigatou gozaimashita!" (Thank you very much!)
