My family will go to Tokyo in earl April 2008 and plan to visit the Mt Fuji 5th station by Sunrise day tour. I'm thinking about my kid. How about the temperature in April? Should I have more colth? or any you suggestion about this trip
Thank you

The temperature are likely in the single digit range around the 5th Station, but unlikely to be freezing. On mild days, it can even be above 10 degrees, especially when there is direct sunshine.

Fuji really isnt that interesting..just a big rock! Been there done that I guess... I wouldnt go back if I did it all over.. However if it is a must see on the list, then go for it. Dress warm as you want...You can always take layers off..Think of it that way.

I agree a trip to the 5th station in April might be a bit over the top. Basically you will be really cold and there may be no view of the mountain even at the 5th station.
However I believe a trip into the 5 lakes region near Mt.Fuji could be better. You could stay in Kawaguchiko and ride rollercoasters at the foor of the mountain. If it is a clear day that view may be as good as the one from the 5th station.
Its all just opinion, I climbed Fuji and loved it, but would NEVER do it again. My 2 cents.

I agree with DRJ I climbed it, wouldn't do it again. It was worth it. If you want to see it though, there are many many spots that you can. Hakone, Tokyo tower on a clear day, Fuji five lakes, even the shinkansen from/to tokyo from kyoto, Izu Peninsula (Izu Hanto) has a great seaside view...This site states... The easiest way to view Mount Fuji is from the train on a trip along the Tokaido Line between Tokyo and Osaka. If you take the shinkansen from Tokyo in direction of Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka, the best view of Mount Fuji can be enjoyed from around Shin-Fuji Station on the right hand side of the train, about 40 to 45 minutes after leaving Tokyo.

I did the 5th station in August 2006 and found it to be quite cool then, compared to the rest of my trip which was really hot. So take a couple layers and then if you find it warmer you can take a layer off. It is neat to go up and see just hopefully you have a clear day as I didn't so couldn't see the summit.
