It is too early for accurate forecasts!

But April 4-9 sounds like a period during which you have a high chance of seeing cherry blossoms in these cities.

Cherry Blossom 2008/2/3 17:14
Actually the period cherry blossom blooms quite varies. Last year I went to Kyoto, Osaka during early April 4-9.
I could see lots of them in Kyoto but not much in Osaka.
Per Uji replied, you need to check accurate forecast again, may be...Mar.

I really enjoy hanami along path of philosophy & the way to Kinkakuji. It's so nice.

Sakura 2008/2/15 15:40
Hi Uji,
If that's too early for the forecast, then when the forecast will come out. and do you have any website we can keep track to see the updated information for the Sakura.

I am also planning to go to Kyoto and Osaka, but not sure April 3-8 or April 10-15.. it really depends on the weather forecast. Would 5 days 4 night be enough to go to both places.. or extra day would be better?

I think kyoto is the best.
But,4-9 is too ealy.
So,you can't see Sakura.

If that's too early for the forecast, then when the forecast will come out.

One weather service has been releasing its first forcast in late February in recent years, just a few days before the Meteorological Agency starts publishing weekly forecasts from early March. But these forecasts are sometimes off by many days.

but not sure April 3-8 or April 10-15.

April 3-8 could be good in case of a very early blooming year. April 10-15 comes probably with the slightly higher change of seeing the blossoms in Kyoto, where the average opening date is around March 31 and trees approach full bloom about one week later.

Would 5 days 4 night be enough to go to both places.

Two days could be enough... It really depends on how much you want to see and your preferred travel pace. To the average first time visitor to Japan, I usually recommend to spend at least two full days in Kyoto and at least one full day in Osaka. But in order to ee both cities in more detail, you would need several more days.

As said, it's very difficult to predict the Sakura periods in Tokyo,Kyoto or Osaka (or any other city). Besides this, the duration of the Sakura is also depending on the weather, if there is strong wind or heavy rain, than the period is very short. So the best thing you can do, is to find a hotel in Nagoya (2 hr from Tokyo, 1 hr from Kyoto and 1,3 hour from Osaka by Shinkansen), get a JR railpass, every morning on NHK-tv there is a Sakura report which indicates the best Sakura spots of the day, also the (better) hotels give this info to their guests. Imho (and as far as I know) Kyoto is having the most and most beautiful Sakura spots
