Meishi for visitors

I know it is important for business people to have meishi while in Japan. But is it something I should have while on vacation there?

They are a handy tool if you wish to swap contact information with somebody you meet on your travels. But unless you meet somebody for business, it is not a necessity.

I live in Japan for almost five months now and so far the only person that asked if I have a meishi was my Japanese teacher. :)

Then again, I don't have to approach unknown businessmen in my current occupation.
