Tokyo to Iwakuni by JR Pass? 2008/3/4 05:25
Can one go from Tokyo to Iwakuni by Shinkansen, USING A JR Rail Pass?

I assume the short answer is yes. However, I wonder about how difficult it might be.

I have read that the JR Rail pass does not cover ''Nozomi'' trains, which go from Tokyo to Osaka, Hiroshima, etc. So I presume that means a lot of train transfers.

Is there some way, to get a mapped out, set of connections that might be required, going from Tokyo to Iwakuni?

I'd like to know how many transfers I have to make and how many busses or other means it might take to get from Tokyo to Iwakuni, to determine if the hassle is worth the effort.

Yes, it is easy. You will have to use hikari trains with transfers at Shin-Osaka and Hiroshima. You can look up schedules below by selecting the "except nozomi" option:

Iwakuni has two stations: Iwakuni and Shiniwakuni. Both are a short bus ride from the bridge.
