Own towel in onsen? 2008/3/9 18:15
Do we have to bring our own towel, soap, etc. when we visit an onsen baht or are they usually provided as a package for entry into the baht area?

It depends on the place. If you overnight at a ryokan, you will be provided with a towel.

If you visit a bath during the day, most of the time, you can either buy or rent a towel from the bath. Sometimes it is provided for free together with the admission fee. But sometimes, there are no towels available, and you will have to bring your own one.

So, it depends.
