Make time for 2008/3/11 00:40
Hello everyone,

How can you translate the english expression "Make time for (something/someone)" into japanese? does such a phrase exist? I thought maybe it could be 時間を作る,but this seems too literal.
Any help is appreciated,thank you:)

People sometimes do say "jikan wo tsukuru," but that is quite literal, and possibly taken from the ENglish expression. When you say "jikan wo tsukuru," that is more like being creative in doing things efficiently so that you can have spare time to do other things.

For the English expression "make time (for something)," the following expressions are used:
時間を あける (keep tiime available (for something/someone)
時間を とる (keep time (for something/someone))

If you want to say something like "I have something I want to talk to you, can you make some time for me?" then it would be more like:
"Soudanshitai koto ga aru'n da kedo,
- jikan wa aru?" or
- jikan wo moraeru"?" or
- jikan wo totte moraeru?"

("I have something I want to consult with you.... do you have time (for that)?" or "could you give me some time?").
