Japan Alps late March - early April

My wife and I are making a last minute trip to Japan leaving March 24 and returning to the USA April 4t. We would like to visit the Japan Alps to hike from Magome to Tsumago but are wondiner if it is to early and how we would get our luggage from one city to the other? Thanks!
