Train tickets

If I buy a ticket for the Yamanote Line, and I put it through the gate, it gets a hole punched into it. This is to get onto the train. When I exit at the destination station, do I still put it through the gates even though it's been punched?
All I have done is give it the the employee at the end of the gates, and they let me through.

Nathan,
Yes, it is normal practice to insert your ticket into the ticket gates when you leave the station. There is no need to use the manned gate.
