Death of a relative, shinto shrine?

My grandfather passed away recently. How long do I have to wait before I'm considered able to visit a shinto shrine? Many thanks.

I don't think there is any reason to wait to do a simple visit unless your relatives are into a special custom or something.

When my father-in-law passed away, I was told that I should stay away from shrines for at least 50 days because Shinto considers death impurity(kegare in Japanese). But unlike Buddhism, there're variations of Shinto interpretation depending on the area. If you want to be sure, I recommend you asking someone in your area.
By the way, you can visit temples anytime you like.
