Woman Traveller 2008/4/15 14:37
Hi,

I am a single woman traveller who will be travelling to Japan in the next 2 weeks. I have visited Japan last year and has travelled to Kyoto / Kobe / Osaka (within 4 days), Hakone (day trip) and Tokyo (5 days).

As I have visited most of the sightseeing places, I will like to know what else I can do in Japan all by myself. I have a couple of friends in Japan but I do not expect them to accompany me thruout the 14 days.

Besides shopping, is there other things I can do? I will most likely stay in Tokyo for around 7 days and / or take a flight to Osaka or Hokkaido.

Thanks for the advice in advance.

so much to see! 2008/4/16 07:32
What else you could do is really a personal question than only you can answer! do you have a special hobby that you could do in Japan? are you a train spotter, are you interested in visiting model homes, have you ever checked appliances (like refrigerators with4-6 compartments at different temperatures) in a giant electronics store like Yodobashi cameras? how about looking at the latest Japanese fashions in clothes?
How can you say that you have visited most of the sightseeing places? 4 days in the Kansai (the birthplace of Japanese culture) barely scratch the surface. Can you find your way around the 400 stores and restaurants of the Hankyu San ban Gai underground mall in Osaka-Kita for example? have you walked the trails in the backwoods of Kamakura?
There are so many great towns and villages to see all around Japan!

I had a volunteer guide in Tokyo. The guide helped me a lot!

Does anyone else find this an odd measure of travel experience?

Anyway, there is still tons to check out that you can do by yourself. How about heading north of Tokyo to Nikko. Perhaps head to Kusatsu, stay in a ryokan and check out some hot springs. Also, the farther north you go the better your chances of seeing cherry blossoms.
