Last minute Golden Week trip

Today I got an email from a friend saying he and another friend will be coming to Japan next week. This has thrown my plans somewhat into disarray as I have to plan some trips for next week. I live between Osaka and Tokyo now. Does anyone have advice on places to visit next week and how I should go about finding accomodation and transport?
I imagine that many places will be pretty hectic.

It entirely depends on what you want to see. Popular resort towns will be crowded and possibly booked out especially on the weekend of May 3-6. But cities like Tokyo and Osaka are pretty empty except the popular shopping and entertainment districts.

Where exactly do you live "between Tokyo and Osaka"??
If travel will be busy, it would help to know where you live close to.
