How do we get from Machida to Kyoto by train? Is it possible for a day trip?

1) Take the JR Yokohama Line from Machida to Shin-Yokohama Station (20 minutes)
2) Take the JR Tokaido Line to Kyoto (2 hours)
If you leave early in the morning and return late at night, you have more than 10 hours in Kyoto.
The round trip costs almost 30,000 yen per person.
