From Amanohashidate to Kyoto 2008/5/19 14:15
Hi, we are planning to travel to Amanohashidate on the JR National Rail Pass from Kyoto.

1. Is the limited express Hashidate train the fastest way (and is it covered by our pass)?

2. In addition, does anyone know what is the latest train from Amanohashidate back to Kyoto? (We checked on Hyperdia but we couldn't find a journey back from Amanohashidate to Kyoto that takes less than 4 hours or 3 transfers).

Thank you!

does anyone know what is the latest train from Amanohashidate back to Kyoto?

The last direct limited express train leaves Amanohashidate at 18:41.

Please be reminded that the Fukuchiyama -- Amanohashidate segment isn't a JR Line, therefore use of the limited express 'Hashidate' on that route incurs a surcharge of 1,480 yen (reserved) even if you hold a valid JR pass. To save the limited express charge of 730 yen, you might take a local train, still it costs 750 yen as a base fare.
