Please enter you query in the small search window above the main page with all the questions. You will get many answers. THE TRIP TAKES FROM 2 1/2 HRS TO 3 HRS WITH 3 OR 4 CHANGES OF VEHICLES. Basically you first have to go from Kyoto to Osaka-Namba. there is a choice of several rail companies. Once in Namba you will take the Nankai railway towards Koya. they have a special pass that includes the train, the cable car and the bus as you need to use the 3 to end up in Koyasan. it is all explained somewhere on this site, likely under the tabs (Travel, Japan A-Z)at the very top of this site. THESE TABS ARE COMPULSORY READING IF ONE WANT TO KNOW A LOT ABOUT JAPAN. Many of the questions asked on this forum are already answered in these tabs, and with maps to boot!. You can also check www.hyperdia.com to find schedules and prices.

It takes approx. 3 hours and costs 1,850 yen each way (from Kyoto Kawaramachi to Koyasan).

e.g. Kawaramachi 7:06hrs -- 10:17 Koyasan via Hankyu, Osaka Subway and Nankai Lines, and the Kayasan Cable car with 4 transfers en route.

Koyasan 18:25 -- 21:37 Kawaramachi

The Kansai Thru Pass could justify this trip.
