For size and a higher probability of actually seeing the mountain, head for the Fuji Five Lake region.

Kawaguchiko 2008/5/25 20:07
Personally, I like the view from Kawaguchiko, in particular the view when you go up a mountain by cablecar. From this mountain you can also see several lakes and (of course) a very nice, pratically unobstructed, view on mt Fuji. In the morning you have the best views, later on the day there are always clouds (at least the times I've been there)
Another good place is Gotemba, but than you also have to go by bus.

its Hakone 2008/5/25 21:01
Hi,
I am Japanese who lives in Kanagawa Prefecture where can go here to Hakone in 40 minutes.
There are a lot of viewpoints in Hakone.
Hakoneyumoto is convenient if staying at Hakone.

Do you have looking for anything else?

The view is definitely best from the top, above the clouds.

Miho 2008/5/26 00:32
Many Japanese people believe that the best view of Fuji is from Miho no Matsubara, the black sand, pine covered spit near the town of Shimizu in Shizuoka-ken. However, being some distance from Fuji, the chances of getting a clear view are less than some other locations except possibly in winter.
