10days tokyo, train cost? 2008/5/29 07:22
1- going to japan for 23 days, spending about 10 of those days in tokyo.

planning on getting a 2week JR pass for the rest of the time when i'm travelling longer distance.
how much do you think it would cost roughly, for 10 days travel in tokyo ? using the yamanote line, subways etc. based in asakusa, and planning on going around central tokyo, it's not planned out fully. i'm just looking for really rough prices.
guessing it's not worth extending to a 3 week JR pass, unless each day in tokyo would cost 10+.
how about a suica, or PASMO card? would that be a good plan/how much should i get on it ?

If you travel just inside central Tokyo without side trips into the suburb and neighboring cities, then the typical tourist will spend about 400 to 1000 yen on train travel per day. Over a 10-day period, I would estimate the cost to total around 7500 yen.

That would definitely be my recommendation. You can re-charge it whenever needed. But an initial 5000 yen will unlikely be too much. You could consider the NEX&Suica package for travel from the airport into Tokyo:

Joanna, of all the train lines in Tokyo, that pass is only valid on nine subway lines.

Tokyo Metro Open Ticket 2008/5/29 19:58
Joanna,

Tokyo Metro Special Open Ticket for Tourists is a good value if you dont mind buying single tickets when using JR or Toei Subway.

Please be reminded that central Tokyo is served by 3 different railway companies(JR, TOKYO METRO and TOEI) and this open ticket is valid for TOKYO METRO only.

Tickets! 2008/5/30 00:13
You can either get a One Day Ticket for JR, the Metro or the other Metro lines.
See this site this pages as well: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2017.html

Suica/Pasmo is a great comfortable thing to get if you don't use any of the other tickets.
