Planning to Japan in late Sept, first stop must be Tokyo, Osaka, then Hokkaido. How can i travel city from city? How long will it take each train trip and how much??
Thank you.

You might want to consider flying by purchasing the Japan Airpass instead of train. The Osaka - Hokkaido segemnt is way too long on the train. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=1...If you want to travel by train, the durations are as follow. Tokyo to Osaka: 2 hours 40 minutes to 3 hours by Shinkansen Osaka to Spporo: 15 hours with several transfers in-between (Shinkansen and other trains). Or there is an overnight sleeper train between Osaka and Sapporo, yet it's not daily and there is a sleeper surcharge of approx. 10k yen even if you have the Japan Railpass. http://www.japanrailpass.net/eng/en001.html
