Tomorrow i will get a new phone. Next week i'll go to japan for 2 months. My question is, does the SE z770i work in Japan?
It has UMTS 2100, therefore i think it should work.
But it has only 3-band, not quadband... does this matter?

It doesn't matter. Triband/quadband things belong to GSM, which is not used in Japan at all.
