Kansai Thru Pass Validity

The summary states that the Kansai Thru Pass is valid for 2/3 days "within the period of validity", but I can not find information on what that period is. Must the days be consecutive, or can you choose which days to use it within a week or so?

If your pass was bought after the beginning of this April, it is valid until 1st May 2009 (2 day pass), or 2nd May 2009 (3 day pass), no matter when you may start to use it.
It can be used regardless of whether the dates are consecutive or not.

Thank you so much for clarifying this. So we could use it on the 2 (or 3) most transit-expensive days of our visit.
