Arriving Late in Shin Chitose Airport

My friend and i are planning a trip to Hokkaido in August. Due to our flight time, we only arrive in Shin-Chitose airport at 8plus at night. Should we stay near the airport and what are some cheap yet safe accommodation recommended? Thanks

I think 8pm Japan in any major city is still "early evening" but thats me. Anycayse its about 35 minutes by train from the Airport into Sapporo, and trains are still running at that time you arrive. I can't think of a reason to stay near the airport, and would just head right into Sapporo, assuming Sapporo is where you wanted to go, but you can also use it as a base for the night.
