How to get divorce records

My Japanese ex-wife and I divorced in Japan four years ago, and I would like to get a record of that to use in a future U.S. green card application for my Japanese fiance. Is there a way to get a record of divorce without going personally to Japan, for example through the embassy? Or do I have to ask my ex mother-in-law to help me out? Ex-wife is living in another country now. Thanks in advance.

Seems that my ex-wife can get the divorce decree for me at a Japanese embassy (she is outside of Japan as well).
Hope this is useful to another person.
