Any suggestions appreciated for itinerary going from TOyko to Shiga Kogen skiing in Feb...want to spend a few days in toyko first, then 6 days skiing and seeing monkey park at Shiga Kogen - but would love suggestions of how to spend full two week trip including if its worth spending time in Nagano and where else along the way???

Matsumoto with its magnificant castle is only 50 min. JR from Nagano. And if you can afford a day or two in Matsumoto, it serves as a good base for visiting Daio Wasabi Farm (the largest wasabi farm in Japan) and the beautiful Kamikochi Valley. The only thing is that if you're there in Feb., the road to Kamikochi may be closed due to heavy snow.
When you mention monkey park, I presume you'll go to the onsen town of Yudanaka, then the Jigokudani Yaen Koen. If not there is another popular onsen town east of Nagano in Kusatsu which is worth going.
Karuizawa is indeed worth a stay. Apart from its large shopping outlet, Karuizawa also serves as a base for visit to Onioshidashi Rock Garden and the Shiraito-no-taki waterfalls.
