Miyamoto Musashi Museum? 2008/7/9 13:11
I'm spending some time in Japan in Sept-Oct, and wanted to check out the Miyamoto Musashi museum in Okayama. It's a bit hard to find info on how to get there, but it looks like (from Himeji, where I'm staying) I'd catch the Sanyo line to Kamigori, then the Chizu express to Miyamotomusashi station? Does anyone know if that's about right?

Also that day I'd be interested in heading to Okayama and Kurashiki, is there a rail pass (besides the Japan-wide one) that would cover these trips? It seems that the JR West pass doesn't extend any further than Himeji.

Thanks in advance!

Here's an access map for the Gorinbo Musashi Museum. There are also other sites around town dealing with Musashi such as his sister's house, his birthplace, and a bone or two in a cemetery. Even the station has a big tile mural on the wall.

Yes, you get to Kamigouri and switch to the Chizu line to MiyamotoMusashi station.

Since this is a private line, it's not part of the JR Pass system, whether JR West or not. You can check out the various JRWest passes at:

Stupid question, perhaps ... 2008/7/10 13:00
.. but why is the Musashi museum here in this place?

(Please don't flame this newcomer to things Musashian; I do know where Ganryu Island is.)

Anaguma- thank you so much! That's a real help. :)

Ian- it's where he was born, apparently.
