How advance would you have to be in japamese to go to a university in japan?

If you're studying a new subject at uni, you're gonna have to be fluent enough to communicate in written and spoken form to university standards. I'd say JLPT Level 3 would be an absolute minimum. But in general, the more proficient in Japanese you are, the easier you'll find it.

I disagree and would say JLPT level 2 as a bare minimum for Universities, and I think many Universities require JLPT level 2 or 1 anyway to enter.
As for how advance thats difficult, I know people who were able to pass JLPT's and entrance examinations, but still needed to continue and struggle in University depending on the subject field they studied, since there might be new terminology/vocabulary in a specific subject field you might be studying in that was not covered in your standard Japanese learning books.
