Traditional gift for a childbirth

Can anyone tell me what kind of gift is the tradition for the birth of a child ? My good friend just gave birth and I'd like to surprise her. Thanks for your help

Toys or clothes for the baby is customary, if that's what you're asking. Also, most mothers prefer being asked for requests. It would be great if you can give something from your country, because foreign designs are always appreciated for its uniqueness. Otherwise, friends can get together and pay for something a bit bigger than what you'd give all by yourself.
