If you're located outside Japan there is a ticket concierge service in the USA that can arrange tickets for you. I'm not sure if I can post links, so search for JapanBall. My husband and I however picked a less popular game and just bought tickets on the day at the gate.

I highly recommend you see a game, it was a good experience.

For most games you can just walk up and purchase tickets--especially if the team you are going to see isn't the Giants or Tigers and it is mid-season.
