Chartering a boat in Japan 2008/8/10 16:45
We would like to charter a small boat with the pilot for a couple of hours, hopefully, close to Tokyo/Yokohama to go out to the sea and spread ashes of the deceased. If anyone has information regarding companies which can perform this kind of service, grfl for your advice.

There are companies who you can hire to either (1) the funeral company takes the ashes on their regular boat service (without the family), spread ashes on your behalf, OR (2) a few families ride on a date designated by the company together, and you can spread ashes, OR (3) one family/group charters a boat to spread ashes. (Of course the fees differ - what I just see on one website from a company in Tokyo lists 52,500, 126,000, and 231,000 yen for the above three types of services.

The website I found, just as one example:

So far the websites that I could find are all in Japanese - you will probably need to hire an interpreter to make all arrangements, or at least search for one that can answer e-mails in English.

An article about scattering ashes:
