What to wear in Miyako Odori?

Hello!
I'm planning to enjoy Miyako Odori (dance performed by maiko and geiko) next spring when travelling to Japan, but I'm not quite sure what I should wear? Just tidy everyday clothes or something more formal?

The spotlight is on the performers, not on the public. Most of those attending are tourists anyway so normal clothes, like a nice shirt or blouse and pants are definitely OK.
