Causative passive 2008/8/15 12:05
Hi. I am learning causative + passive forms of verb conjugations. I’ve encountered several problems and I hope someone could explain briefly.

Ex 1: I force my (younger) sister to study.

Watashi wa imotou ni benkyou saseru.

So, ni is used because the direction of the act of forcing is my sister, right?

How about putting it in passive voice? What will it be?

Ex 2: My sister is forced by me to study.

Imotou wa watashi ni benkyou saserareru.

Is it correct? Why is ni used after watashi? The direction of the action should be the other way, right?

I am a bit confused here… Hope someone can guide me…Thx.

Zyzzyva,

That looks OK to me.
Note that in the passive version, your sister has become the subject (hence the "wa"), and "ni" is used for "by".

Oh I see. SO in this case 'ni' acts as 'by' is it. Okay. Wakarimashita.
