Mt. Fuji in Sept/Oct

My husband & I will be in Zushi from Sept. 22 - Oct. 6 visiting family. We'd like to climb Fuji but are not sure about the weather, etc. as we know that it can get really cold and less than pleasant. Is this advisable or no? Thoughts? Thanks!

Thanks all. I did read the visitors guide and realize that Sept/Oct is not the best time to go. I am wondering if anyone has gone that time of year. My brother, who lives in Zushi, indicated that not all the stops/huts may be open but, other than that, it shouldn't be too bad. Has anyone tried climbing it in the fall? We have a friend that was among the first American women allowed to climb it - shortly after the mountain was opened to Americans - so we'd love to do it for her. My husband & I are in good shape so our physical ability isn't a big concern - it's everything else. :) Thanks.

Hey, I am planning on climbing around that time too. Currently in Osaka... May be we can do it together; coz I am doing it solo at the moment

Thanks for the comments all. I spoke with my brother and he talked to a bunch of his Japanese friends - they all advised against it. They said there is no support on the mountain and transportation is hard to come by. My brother is very active (as are we) and he thought we shouldn't do it - up to that point he was all for it.
We thought hard about it but decided that there are a bunch of other things we can do while we're there and we can always go back during the climbing season. There are some great hikes on old trade routes where you stay with Japanese host families on the way. We don't have enough time to do it but I'd check it out.
