acceleration of a shinkasen is it done by supplying more current or by running many motors?

Chris,
The title of your question doesn't appear to bear much relation to your question, but I think you'll find that modern shinkansen motors are normally controlled by varying the frequency and voltage of the power input - as is the case on most electric trains with AC motors. Does that answer your question?
