I am an avid quilter/sewer and wondering where I can find a fabric shop in Japan? I will be based in Osaka but willing to travel anywhere for a great shop...

it is a little far from Osaka, but Nippori (on the Yamanote line) in Tokyo has a high density of fabric shops and calls itself "fabric town"

For Osaka, try check at the Honmachi stations of both Midosuji and Chuo subway lines. There under the express way is a shopping mall that I saw some fabric shops. They are the smaller "mom and pop" size shops.

Some of the Department stores sell quilt fabric, sometimes on the top floors. I've found that you can do better in the US with fabric choices and prices, though.
